Project Overview:

YouTube Play

Engaged as Associate Producer/Technical Supervisor for this live web streamed event for YouTube. This large-scale event, produced by the Guggenheim and Youtube and streamed live from New York City, was part opening party event for an exhibit, part concert, and part video art exhibition.

YouTube Play was recognized for excellence with a number of 2011 Webby Awards .

Developed by YouTube, the Guggenheim Museum, and Sunset Lane Entertainment, in collaboration with HP and Intel, YouTube Play was A Biennial of Creative Video that was a global live stream event. It recognized the ever-expanding realm of online video and its most remarkable practitioners. YouTube Play was a celebration at the Guggenheim of the 25 global videos and their creators, selected by the jury from more than 23,000 submitted.

This was a live streamed web event for the opening night of the video art exhibition, with simultaneous creation of highlight VOD clips to support the web site post-show. The public video art exhibit installation remained at the museum for an additional three days.

As Associate Producer/Technical Supervisor, Steve oversaw not only the technical aspects of the live event production coverage, including cameras, sound, satellite, venue PA, Television production truck, and power, but also the live streaming, video stream encoding, and video clip VOD creation.

The event was fully produced and shot in High Definition and originated at 3 bitrates for the website.

In addition to the Live event, Steve also oversaw the design and implementation of the video art exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum. The exhibt, which was to allow public display of the 25 featured videos, included a "Digital Gallery" area in which all 25 videos were projected on the walls of the Gallery. A second Exhibit area consisted of a number of wall mounted touch-screen display units on which museum visitors could select and watch the videos and other "behind-the-scenes" content.
