Project Overview:

Hearst Magazine Group

Engaged by Hearst Magazines to assist technology and magazine production staff in developing strategy and requirements for a worldwide digital asset management system.

Embedded as part of a "core" development team, Steve worked in concert with in-house experts to help guide the future vision of the system, and facilitate the process of defining the business needs, use cases, and system functional and technical requirements.

In this phase of the project, work for Hearst included a detailed review of the existing media asset and production environment, needs assessment study, metadata analysis, asset storage requirements, contractual rights analysis, development of internal business rules and asset usage restrictions.

In follow-up to this work, Steve continued to wotk with the Hearst team in pursuing candidate vendors and deployment methodologies to execute on the system vision.

Hearst Magazines, a unit of Hearst Corporation, is one of the world's largest publishers of monthly magazines is composed of three component publishing operations:
U.S. with 15 Magazine titles and 20 websites
National Magazine (U.K.) with 20 Magazine titles
Hearst Magazines international (HMI) representing nearly 200 editions worldwide

In addition to print publishing, the Magazine division includes numerous other media platforms including Hearst Books, bookazines, and digital electronic magazine versions
